I'm glad you've stopped by! So, what's with the "Ramkitten" thing, you ask? Well, that's my trail name in the long-distance backpacking community (and now just about everywhere else), but you can call me Deb if you'd like.

Hiking the Appalachian Trail was the greatest experience of my life, and I have plans for more long-distance treks in the future. That's me in the photo, celebrating at the official end of the A.T., excited about the accomplishment, looking forward to being home again, but a little sad inside too, because an amazing journey had come to an end. That was in 2000 but feels like yesterday, as I remember everything in such detail. That's often how it is when you're moving through life at no more than 3 miles per hour along the simplicity of a trail.

Anyhow, I'm originally from Rhode Island but now live in Flagstaff, Arizona, where I'm a Search & Rescue volunteer (love it!).

In late 2008, I quit my eight-to-five job in favor of doing things I truly enjoy on a full-time basis. One of those things is writing, and I'm now making my living as a freelance writer, both for myself and for clients, authoring and ghostwriting books, articles, blogs and other content on a wide variety of topics.

Just thought I'd share this with you. I went to my dashboard on Squidoo and it said:
"Anyone lucky enough to have come across her lenses already knows that today's ?Editor for the Day?, Ramkitten, is well known around these parts as a great lover"
I don't think that was the end of the sentence but it made me think that maybe Squidoo is more fun than I realised.
By the way, I liked your choice of lenses.

I'm so sorry that the update has caused you so many problems with your lenses. I feel bad for you and others who are likely to suffer financially because of this change. Hang in there. I have to believe the Squidoo will address some of these issues, given how many people are being affected.
  • Ramkitten Dec 08, 2012 @ 11:36 am
Thank you so much. I appreciate that you show empathy for those who are negatively affected by the changes to one degree or another. Not everyone is like that, but I'm sure you're just that kind of person, on Squidoo and off. Have a great day!

I got to see London Bridge briefly when I was going home from San Francisco on a Greyhoud bus after being discharged from the Air Force. That's all I remember about Arizona from that trip since most of the time in AZ was at night. Pity.

I wanted to let you know (in case I haven't told you this earlier) - I can see part of the AT from my house! My "front yard" (or at least my view) is the north flank of Mounts Madison and Adams - I can see the "cut" of the trail from where I'm sitting! You have a lot of guts and determination to do that trail. Thanks so much, once again for your visit and support! A huge Squidly hug to you! Kath :)

Hi! I've been reading several of your lenses, as I love to hike also, though I am definitely a novice. I had a pretty horrible car accident a few years back and now have back problems. Nothing too serious, just tends to get achey, strained, sometimes thrown out of alignment. I was wondering if you are aware of any specific packs or gear that are better for the back than others as far as weight and style goes. Any information would help. Thanks! Great lenses!

Hi Deb, I thought I'd come and say hallo. I saw your post in the forum and just wanted to say that I really do know how you felt...don't want to rake up bad memories at all, but it sometimes helps to know that others react the same way, and go through the same things.

I thought it was just me once...but deeply feeling the pain of others is a fact of life for some. We do have to protect ourselves, and the world is insensitive, but there's a gift in there somewhere.
